Data on individual food consumption are needed to better inform agriculture and food policymakers at global, national and sub-national levels and make them more mindful of individual nutrition. Food consumption data disaggregated by sex and age will help assess the dietary exposure to food safety hazards, identify the main sources of these hazards and carry out risk analysis.

The Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) conducted Bringing-In Resources for Agenda in Kalusugan, Kabuhayan at Kaalaman sa Kabikulan (BREAK 4K) in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology Region V. This event coincided with the 2019 Regional Science and Technology Week Celebration (RSTW) of DOST Region V.

The Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) disseminated the results of the Feeding Infant and Toddler Studies (FITS) during the conference entitled “Deep Dive on the First 1000 Days: What Do Filipino Mothers and Children Eat” on September 20, 2019, Makati Diamond Residences. A total of 32 participants from various health and nutrition sectors attended the event.

The prevalence of overweight and obese is observed to be higher than the national estimate across all population groups in the 80 highly-urbanized cities (HUCs) in the National Capital Region (NCR),” Dr. Imelda Angeles-Agdeppa, Scientist II, Officer-in-Charge, Office of the Deputy Director and Chief Science Research Specialist of the Department of Science and Technology – Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) said during the Dissemination Forum on the Expanded National Nutrition Survey (ENNS) Year 1 Results at the Dusit Thani Manila on August 20, 2019.
