The Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) conducted Bringing-In Resources for Agenda in Kalusugan, Kabuhayan at Kaalaman sa Kabikulan (BREAK 4K) in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology Region V. This event coincided with the 2019 Regional Science and Technology Week Celebration (RSTW) of DOST Region V.

Part of the 2019 RSTW celebration was the fellowship night on October 8, 2019 wherein a mini concert highlighting DOST-FNRI’s homegrown talents was held to provide entertainment among Bicolanos. The said event also served as the formal turn-over for the cash and in-kind donations that FNRI Employees’ Association Inc. has gathered from the HapagAWIT: Alay sa Bicol fund raising event held on May 10, 2019.

To formally open the fellowship night, short and inspiring messages were delivered by DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña, DOST-FNRI Director Mario V. Capanzana and Ms. Emelita P. Bagsit, OIC, Office of the Regional Director, DOST Region V. This was followed by the official turn-over of cash proceeds from HapagAWIT: Alay sa Bicol amounting to P117,000.00 and noncash donations from several sponsors to Atty. Jopito O. Agualada, Municipal Vice-Mayor, Cabusao, Camarines Sur. The turn-over ceremony was followed by a mini-concert highlighting the celebrations of love, hope, charity and thanksgiving. Guests and participants enjoyed the evening filled with love and hope. To end the fellowship night, our dearest DOST Secretary de la Peña rendered three songs that made the event more enjoyable. The event was hosted by Ms. Chichi Fajardo-Robles, Host, Katok Tahanan, Radyo Veritas.

The BREAK 4K was conducted in the Municipality of Cabusao, Camarines Sur on October 9-10, 2019. This municipality was endorsed by DOST Region V as the most ideal beneficiary for the Institute’s corporate social responsibility initiative. The purpose of the said event was to bring the Institute’s food and nutrition services such as nutrition counseling, training for meal management, basic nutrition, nutrition education, and fora ford developed food technologies and dissemination of National Nutrition Survey results. 

A total of 225 participants attended various activities conducted on October 9-10, 2019 including Training on DOST Pinoy (Parts 1 and 2), Training on Meal Management (Part 1 and 2), Regional Dissemination of Expanded National Nutrition Survey, Nutrition Educator’s Kit Training, Nutrition Counselling, Seminar on Pinggang Pinoy, Demo on Complementary Feeding, Technology Forum and Livelihood Training with Demo. To end the event, Dr.  Milflor S. Gonzales, Chief Science Research Specialist, DOST-FNRI thanked the participants for actively participating in all the activities and reminded them to use and apply what they learned in their daily practices. The participants were happy to leave the event with new knowledge gained from various activities as well as simple tokens from DOST-FNRI which consists of nutritious products among others.
