- Hits: 2873
The Department of Science and Technology’s Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) enjoined its staff's participation in the annual observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), from November 25 to December 10, 2021, with the theme “Filipino Marespeto: Safe Spaces, Kasali Tayo!”
According to the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), this campaign aims to encourage the public to share how they visualize a community without gender-based sexual harassment, as there is a need to intensify awareness on the Safe Spaces Act (SSA) or Republic Act 11313.
This law defines and penalizes gender-based sexual harassment in the streets and public spaces, workplaces, educational and training institutions, and online platforms.
All government agencies and local government units (LGUs), including the private sector, are enjoined to align campaign activities with this objective.
In support of this campaign, the DOST-FNRI conducted a photo contest among all its permanent, Contract of Services (COS), and Institutional Contract of Services (ICOS) personnel from November 23 to November 30, 2021, with the photo entries posted on the FNRI Facebook page.
The top 18 photos were judged by the DOST-FNRI Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) Executive Committee according to the entries' content, relevance to the theme, originality, creativity, message and quality and excellence of photos.
Here are the top 3 photos chosen from the 18 short-listed photos:
The DOST-FNRI is confident that this initiative will continue to inspire everyone to commit to ensuring safe spaces for everyone towards a VAW-free community.
