The COVID-19 pandemic has not only affected the current healthcare system but has also influenced consumer attitudes, lifestyle, and purchasing behaviors. These changes have greatly impacted product development priorities. At the same time, access to relevant and up-to-date information on food, nutrition, health, as well as purchasing behaviors, has been demanding. Thus, now is the perfect time to introduce a more reliable source of information or “intelligence” into these concepts.

A clear-sighted, supportive and empowered woman is behind the leadership of the Department of Science and Technology’s Food and Nutrition Research Institute’s (DOST-FNRI) – Dr. Imelda Angeles-Agdeppa, also a Scientist II, is the newly-appointed and 8th DOST-FNRI Director, succeeding Dr. Mario V. Capanzana who retired in August 2020.

Results of the study on virgin coconut oil (VCO) as dietary supplement among COVID-19 probable and suspect cases showed that 5 of the 29 patients who were served meals with VCO manifested diminishing signs and symptoms as early as the second day, while only one patient served with the same meals but without VCO showed similar improvement.
