FIERC

The Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRIDOST) is guided by its mission to provide accurate data, correct information, and innovative technologies to fight malnutrition. In fulfillment of this mission, the FNRI created its own Research Ethics Committee under the name FNRI Institutional Ethics Research Committee (FIERC). It was registered with the Philippine Ethics Research Committee on December 3, 2007 with registration number Reg. No. 07-021.

To promote quality, timely and comprehensive ethical review in the implementation of Philippine National Research System (PNHRS) policy, Institutional Research Ethics Committees (IERCs) are required to get an accreditation from the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB). Accreditation of the FIERC was conducted on April 21, 2016 and approved for Level 3 Accreditation with No: L3-2016-03701. This accreditation means that FIERC is able to review all types of researches including studies required for Food and Drug Administration (FDA) registration of food, drugs and devices. It also shall comply with International Conference on Harmonization - Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) standards.

The certificate of accreditation was awarded during the 10th Philippine National Health Research System Week Celebration held on August 8-12, 2016 at the Citystate Asturias Hotel, Puerto Princesa, Palawan. The certificate was received by Dr. Mario V. Capanzana, FNRI Director and Dr. Cecilia Cristina Santos-Acuin, Chair of FIERC and FNRI Chief Science Research Specialist.

The awarding ceremony was also attended by the FIERC Co-chair Dr. Rodolfo F. Florentino and members Dr. Marie Joy B. Arguillas, Rev. Fr. Leonardo E. Dollentas and Ms. Evelyn C. Villapando. The FIE RC Secretariat representati ves are Ms. Teresa S. Mendoza and Mr. Marco P. De Leon.

With this accreditation, the FIERC continues to review and monitor new and on-going protocols of FNRI to ensure protection of the rights and the dignity of human participants involved in its researches.
